In the heart of Katowice, at the site of the former Supersam wholesale market founded in the 1930s, a new Supersam is being built by the Griffin Group.

The building is situated along the Modernism Trail, a tourist route which takes in the finest examples of modernist architecture in Katowice. Fans will no doubt appreciate the numerous references to the style in the new Supersam.

To show their respect for tradition, the architects have incorporated four steel girders from the old market into the new structure. These were designed by Stefan Bryła, with the welding technology used a real novelty for the time. A further two girders were donated to the Museum of Silesia in Katowice.

The new Supersam will have nearly 21,000 m² of retail space located over five storeys above ground and one below. Three floors of commercial space will house over 100 shops and services, with a cinema, food court, leisure activities and gym on the second floor. The top floors will serve as a car park with 400 spaces. The Griffin Group plans to complete the investment by Autumn 2015.
